Research Areas
- Design and characterization of synthetic membrane proteins:
Using protein design to hypothesize and test chemical rules and
features for protein structure or function in lipid. Focuses on
creating simplified membrane protein models to understand disease
mechanisms, improve in silico prediction, and enable bioengineering
applications.
- Design of chemical biology tools: Developing computational
algorithms to design hydrophobic mini-proteins and peptides that
insert into lipid bilayers and target membrane proteins at their
transmembrane regions. These tools help manipulate protein states
and study disease mechanisms for therapeutic insights.
The lab employs computational methods like bioinformatics, modeling, and molecular dynamics, alongside experimental techniques such as NMR, X-ray crystallography, lipid cubic phase crystallography, chemical synthesis, bioconjugation, and cellular assays. Candidates with additional skills like cryo-EM are encouraged to apply.
Basic Qualifications
- Molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, protein expression &
purification
- Biophysical and structural characterization of proteins (FRET,
NMR, Cryo-EM, X-ray)
- Computational biology and programming (Python, Perl, Bash,
C++)
- Proven research productivity with peer-reviewed
publications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with membrane protein expression, purification, and
structural biology
- Computational biophysics, high-performance computing, GPU
acceleration
- Proficiency with molecular modeling and simulation
software
- Skills in bioinformatics, statistics, clustering, machine
learning
