Position description
The Department of Medicine (https://med.ucsd.edu ) at the
University of California, San Diego is committed to academic
excellence within the faculty, staff and student body. We are
actively recruiting to fill the tenured position of Chief, Division
of Hematology and Cellular Therapies.
The Department of Medicine (DOM) and Moores Cancer Center (MCC) are
embarking on an exciting new trajectory to leverage their
significant research and clinical strengths within an environment
that values innovation and collaboration. Our goal is to
re-envision how we fulfill our academic, clinical, and research
missions in addressing hematologic malignancies.
The Hematology and Cellular Therapies Division Chief will be a key
member of the leadership teams at both the DOM and MCC. This role
presents an opportunity to build upon a robust clinical and
research infrastructure, collaborating with faculty and university
leaders to support our integrated academic, research, and clinical
missions.
The selected candidate will lead a research program and oversee the
transplant, cellular therapies, and both benign and malignant
hematologic disorders programs. Additionally, the selected
candidate will teach and mentor the next generation of physicians
and faculty, and/or provide clinical care to patients.
The appointment will be based on the candidate's background and
experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence
with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee
should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional
activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates must have an MD or equivalent degree, or an MD/PhD in
Hematology.
Candidates must have 5+ years of experience leading a clinical,
translational, and/or basic research program, along with an
independent, extramurally funded research program (e.g., NIH R01 or
similar).
Candidates must also have 5+ years of publications in high-impact
journals, along with at least five grants or publications in
Hematology and/or Cellular Therapies.
Candidates who will have clinical duties, must be board certified
or board eligible in Hematology or Hematology/Oncology and must
either hold, or be eligible for, a California medical license or
equivalent certification as determined by the Medical Board of
California.
